Popular Bank gets support from State

The House of Representatives late last night approved legislation providing for state support to the island’s second largest lender. The item was passed with 43 votes for, none against, and three abstentions.

15 firms to bid for gas drilling rights off Cyprus

History

The Netherlands has a prosperous economy in which the government has reduced her role since the 80’s. Though small, the country with her open economy that leans on international trade, belongs to the 15 largest economies in the world.
The Netherlands knows relatively low unemployment rates and a high educated labour force, of which 75% works in the service sector. Trade, transport, telecommunication, construction, banks and insurances make up the largest groups in this sector. The Netherlands belongs to the largest exporting countries of agricultural products, in which only 4% of the Dutch working population is active.
The principal industrial activities of the Netherlands are in the chemical industry (DSM), food processing (Unilever), oil refinement (Shell), and the production of electronics (Philips).
